چکیده

The aim of the study was to compare the localisation of oestrogen receptors a and b (ERa and ERb) in the human and rat epididymides. In the human epididymis the immunoexpression for ERa was detected in the nuclei of the caput epithelial cells, while positive reaction for ERb was observed in the nuclei of the cauda epithelial cells. In the rat epididymis, immunoexpression for ERa showed nuclei of the caput and cauda epithelial cells. However, the reaction was stronger in cells of the caput epididymis. A positive reaction for ERb was observed in the nuclei of smooth muscle cells of the epididymal duct and in the nuclei of interstitial tissue cells of the rat caput and cauda epididymis. We have demonstrated that localisation of ERa and ERb is cell-, regionand species-dependent.

Oestrogen-mediated cardioprotection following ischaemia and reperfusion is mimicked by an oestrogen receptor (ER)alpha agonist and unaffected by an ER beta antagonist

Oestrogen protects the heart from ischaemic injury. The current study aims to characterise two novel oestrogen receptor (ER) ligands, an ERa agonist ERA-45 and an ERb antagonist ERB-88, and then use them to investigate the roles of ERa and ERb in mediating the cardioprotection by E from ischaemia– reperfusion injury in the rat. The ER ligands were characterised by gene transactivation assay usi...

Steroid hormone receptors, MIB-1, p53, and c-erb-B2 expression on breast cancer: Comparison of immunohistochemistry on cell block and fine needle aspiration and tissue sample, in northwest Iran

Background: Fine-needle aspiration of breast cancer often provides moderate cellular material that is representative of the tumors. These samples can be used not only for cytological diagnosis but also to obtain information on the prognosis and likely response to therapy by using immunohistochemical staining studies. Methods: We assessed the degree of correlation between prognostic biologic ma...

Oestrogen regulated gene expression in normal and malignant endometrial tissue.

OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to examine the expression of oestrogen regulated genes in premenopausal and postmenopausal normal and malignant endometrial specimens. The molecular mechanisms and the role of these genes in endometrial carcinogenesis are poorly understood. METHODS Normal and malignant endometrial specimens were collected from patients undergoing hysterectomy. Real time Ta...

Mouse Estrogen Receptor b Forms Estrogen Response Element- Binding Heterodimers with Estrogen Receptor a

The recent discovery that an additional estrogen receptor subtype is present in various rat tissues has advanced our understanding of the mechanisms underlying estrogen signaling. Here we report on the cloning of the cDNA encoding the mouse homolog of estrogen receptor-b (ERb) and the functional characterization of mouse ERb protein. ERb is shown to have overlapping DNA-binding specificity with...
